- Story: As some know or will know now. In September 2007 I blew out 2 discs in my back at the L3-4 and L4-5 levels. My PT and GP explained that my back has been slowly going thru this disc degeneration for at least a year or two. Looking at the films, they show that the L3-4 and L4-5 vertebrae have fused themselves together due to a condition called Ankylosis Spondalitis. It’s a condition where your body thinks its injured so it starts to naturally fuse your spine to protect itself. One of the big worries right now is the integrity of the natural fusion. They are conserned that since it was a natural fusion that is can be much weaker than if it was surgical they also brought up the fact that if I ever got hit hard enough or twisted/ bent in an Extreme manner it may snap the fusion causing permanent damage even paralysis due to a severing of the spinal cord. In November they removed a small piece of bone fragment that was floating around causing pain and numbness. So for now i am in water therapy and very limited resisitance exercise. I still hit the freestanding bag but only for about 10 mins at a time at a VERY slow pace.
